About the Faculty
Who we are, what we teach, and where our graduates go.
The Faculty of Engineering
The Lebanese University established the Faculty of Engineering under Decree No. 9305 dated 21 October 1974. The Faculty began its operations in 1980, as the third faculty of engineering in Lebanon and the ninth faculty of the Lebanese University.
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the first applied faculties to select students through a competitive entrance exam and to provide world-class majors in all fields of engineering. It keeps pace with progress in the field through scientific research and by meeting the needs of the local, regional and international job markets. An Engineering and Scientific Research Center, established in 2014, is affiliated to the Faculty.
In 2019, the Faculty obtained the European Accredited Engineer label (EUR-ACE) from the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI).
The Faculty includes three branches, alongside the deanship: Branch I (President Michel Sleiman University Campus, Ras Maska, North Lebanon), Branch II (Antonine Sisters School Building, Roumieh, Metn), and Branch III (Rafic Hariri University Campus, Hadath).
Branch II - Roumieh
Teaching at Branch II began in the academic year 1979–1980, under Dr. Jacques Nasr as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Dr. Akram Ghorayeb as the first Director of the Branch, followed by seven other directors. The Branch originally comprised three specializations - Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical & Electronic Engineering - and a fourth, Industrial Chemistry & Petrochemical Engineering, was created in the academic year 2014–2015.
Our mission
The graduates of the Faculty of Engineering contribute to addressing engineering and social challenges through innovative solutions. The Faculty also provides consulting engineering services to public and private institutions, develops theoretical and applied educational programs, and supports the research projects of its professors and students.
Programs at Branch II
Students follow a two-year common core, then join one of four departments for the five-year Engineering Diploma:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical & Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Chemistry & Petrochemical Engineering
The Faculty grants an Engineering Diploma (5 years), a Research Master, and a Specialized Master. Branch II also hosts the Research Master in Natural Risks in Civil Engineering, a joint program with Université Grenoble Alpes (France).
